As God is My Witness, I will Never Vote for a Rep or a Dem as Long as I live.

Most of the schools in the Houston area are closing for at least the next week.

Doesn't affect me at the moment. since almost all schools take these next three weeks off and after Spring break testing starts so they don't need me much anyway.

Summer is my heavy time of the year for training. I spend most of the school year lining up jobs, and I can do that by phone with districts I already work with.

So, I can't complain.

Yet.

I've been looking for a reason to spend some time to work on my game. Now I think about it, Poker may be affected also. I'll finish this before I explain how.

But I will say that this is the first time, that I've been so directly affected by specific government shenanigens. I've usually been able to avoid the worst of it. I pay taxes (protection money) and other than that manage to have them leave me alone.

But, as some other poster said, that isn't a thing under the Twoparties.

My Gawd. Imagine being some low level worker that the Dems always claim to be looking out for and they pull this?

Imagine being a middle class person that the Reps always claim to look out for and they let the Dems pull this.

Fie! A pox on both their houses!

So, I'm trying to predict how poker will be affected by this malarkey.

Online poker, not at all. If anything, there will be more players as people stay home and hide from the virus. Those are exactly the kind of people who I want to play poker against.

But I hope they don't stay home from the poker rooms and I don't think that they will.

My reasoning is this: There are basically two kinds of poker players, people who like to gamble and think poker is blackjack with more cards and chairs instead of stools, and people who are good at math.

The gamblers will likely be afraid of the virus, but come out anyway. You know. Because they're gamblers.

People who are good at math won't be hiding from the virus, for reasons that should be obvious.

That's best case scenario.

Worst case scenario, the gamblers let their superstitions get the best of them and stay home. Those of us good at math get to know each other after a while so we recognize each other. I just picture myself walking in and seeing just them at the table and they say, "oh, it's you," and I say, "oh, you guys . . . "

Poker players are a lot like the Republicans and Democrats. We need plenty of suckers to thrive.

flops, Is poker in some way like the free-market?
Oh, yeah. Very much so in some ways and not at all in some ways.

Poker is microcosm of the free market in that math and psychology interact with each other constantly.

It is unlike the free market in that most businesses really do take some measure of pride in offering a good product or service for the money. A poker player is much more like a one-person casino who wants to skin his "customers" for the maximum amount possible, only hoping that their customers wins money from another player and keeps playing.

To be successful at poker, you study, study, study off-table so that you how to make bets and raises that will seem like a good deal to your opponents, but which actually put you at a mathematical advantage. Then you adjust, adjust, adjust based on your observation of opponents' behavior.

"That guy will call any size bet with any pair, and I have top pair. So, I go all-in and 80% of the time he calls, I win. But this guy here, won't call any size bet unless he has the nuts, so I make a small bet and if he calls, I know I'm beat."

I even borrowed a method from stores that I've seen no other poker player use. I call it "the loss leader." When I sit down and there is a stranger at the table, I make a small bet the on the second or third hand, no matter what cards I have. If I get raised or bet into later on, I fold like I intended. I do the same again about ten hands later except I call the first bet and fold the next time. Then, I wait until I get a strong hand against the stranger. The I make a similar bet and just call the next one.

At this point the people that know me either suppress grins or look annoyed because I'm about to catch a fish they had their eye on.

When said fish bets again, expecting a fold, I insta-shove all in. They always tank (think a long time) and they almost always call with a ridiculously weak hand like third pair that they couldn't let themselves be bluffed out of. Once in a while they have kings or aces and once in a while they get lucky on the last card. But usually, it's like printing money.

I can't believe Republicrats want to take that away from me.

I'm ecstatic to hear this, Bernie Sanders is an Independent! Will be looking forward to you helping US dust off Trump and Biden! Thank you!
