Yes, but they are taking their spiritual beliefs and convictions SOMEWHERE. The fact that they are fed up with the hypocrisy (as am I) is a sure indication that they regard their convictions as important. What I see when I look around my community and others is a constant springing up of new, smaller non-mainstream churches holding meetings in non-traditional places. I suspect they're not bailing on faith, but on worn-out traditional forms of worship.
And a whole lot of them are seeing that god is not required, and so there are ten times as many atheists as there were in the 1960's.

Read Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Paine and James Madison. They wanted our secular government and religion separate. Both from the point of government mixing in religion and religion mixing in government. They recognized that allowing one would lead to the other. The only way to prohibit one was to prohibit both.
I. Whereas Almighty God hath created the mind free; that all attempts to influence it by temporal punishment or burthens, or by civil incapacitations, tend only to beget habits of hypocrisy and meanness, and are a departure from the plan of the Holy author of our religion, who being Lord both of body and mind, yet chose not to propagate it by coercions on either, as was his Almighty power to do . . .

II. Be it enacted by the General Assembly, that no man shall be compelled to frequent or support any religious worship, place, or ministry whatsoever, nor shall be enforced, restrained, molested, or burthened in his body or goods, nor shall otherwise suffer on account of his religious opinions or belief; but that all men shall be free to profess, and by argument to maintain, their opinion in matters of religion, and that the same shall in no wise diminish, enlarge, or affect their civil capacities.

III. And though we well know that this assembly elected by the people for the ordinary purposes of legislation only, have no power to restrain the act of succeeding assemblies, constituted with powers equal to our own, and that therefore to declare this act to be irrevocable would be of no effect in law; yet we are free to declare, and do declare, that the rights hereby asserted are of the natural rights of mankind, and that if any act shall be hereafter passed to repeal the present, or to narrow its operation, such as would be an infringement of natural right.

the ten commandments do not condemn murder

the commandment condemns killing

the government does it daily - in wars, in keeping people from health care, in allowing tobacco to be produced and sold, in capital punishment

but I'm sure they pray first, so it's okay
Man, you almost had a really good point there. Had you just left out the healthcare and tobacco stuff.

From your own source:

Because some governments have strongly promoted atheism and others have strongly condemned it, atheism may be either over-reported or under-reported for different countries. There is a great deal of room for debate as to the accuracy of any method of estimation, as the opportunity for misreporting (intentionally or not) a category of people without an organizational structure is high.

Genesis 9:5-6

"Surely I will require your lifeblood; from every beast I will require it. And from every man, from every man's brother I will require the life of man. "Whoever sheds man's blood, By man his blood shall be shed, For in the image of God He made man.
