Three sailors test positive for coronavirus in first cases on a Navy ship at sea March 24, 2020 04:55 PM

"Three sailors on the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt tested positive for the novel coronavirus while deployed in the Pacific region, the first cases on a Navy ship at sea.

Acting Secretary of the Navy Thomas Modly announced the cases on Tuesday and confirmed the Navy now has 86 COVID-19 cases, including 57 military, 13 civilians, 11 dependents, and five contractors.

“Three cases of COVID-19 have been identified among personnel currently deployed and underway on the USS Theodore Roosevelt. These are our first three cases of COVID-19 on a ship that is deployed,” he said."

That is zombie movie thinking. Small bands of humans spend all of their time trying to kill each other instead of uniting and working to get rid of the zombies. The zombies never fight among themselves but the humans will try to kill each other on sight.

Most people don't like GMO foods, although they have reduced if not eliminated starvation around the world. They like "organic" foods, with all of the bacteria and diseases they contain.

If the fools in the UN don't see diseases as an universal problem that requires everyone's cooperation to control then it is a useless organization and should be eliminated. Of course there are the 1%'ers who want to kill off 80-90% of humanity to save the planet. So, between the dummies, the nitwits, and the psychos who run things the average idiot doesn't stand much of a chance in the 21st Century. Don't think that we won't collapse like other civilizations have done throughout history.
1. this is one of the major flaws I have noticed in the Walking Dead series after Season One. With all of the experts they consulted about disease pandemics and historians to map out how life would change after the complete breakdown of modern civilization .... going back to horse and buggy after all gasoline has degraded and cars are useless. But, for some reason they couldn't find an anthropologist, who could have told them you don't have wars until there is something to fight over and take from someone else.

Even the first settlements in Sumer, the Indus Valley and Egypt were aware of each other, and trading gems, art work and spices back and forth, but no one got around to raising armies and invading other cities until about 3500 years ago ...... which just happens to be when the first coins i.e. money was created!

This is why I had a hard time sitting through a couple of seasons that were based around an invasion by a conquering warlord called "Negan." Negan is a ruthless, narcissistic tyrant who rules over his large clan by fear. Even though they are all the remnants of humanity living in a now empty land where everyone has plenty of room and lots of leftovers from civilization to make use of. Why don't they just hit the road and wander off somewhere they can build new settlements to their liking?

The only upside offered to life in Negan's kingdom is making surrounding settlements slave colonies to produce their food and a few other crafts. No one has taught how to hunt or gather food in the post-apocalypse!

Seems obvious that the story writers and show creators are stuck on the preaching of evolutionary psychology ..... that doesn't consider culture as a factor in determining behaviour..... assumption being competition, conflict and wars are normal human behaviour and always has been cause that's the way things are today.

Don't expect trump to help you.
Trump is the ultimate self-starter ...... all about helping himself. Trump is America's reward for elevating the virtues of selfishness to preeminence. Right now, he is focused singlemindedly on re-election, and nothing else matters. If only the official opposition would allow a candidate who offers policies that a majority of people (not rich, ruling class) want. So, instead of Bernie, the controllers of the other party offer Wknd at Bernie's!

The point about The Walking Dead series is how easy it is for a psycho to take control of the sheep and get them to blindly obey his murderous whims. The Bible has several stories about that, such as when nutty Moses came down the mountain and saw the sheep exercising freedom of religion. He had his thugs kill thousands of them. The same theme is repeated in The Walking Dead series. It is real life in countless countries around the world in 2020. The sheep are too sheepish to whack the nut job upside his head and instead kill and torture their own family members to please him.

NO, IT IS NOT EASY for a psycho to assume god-like power over a populace. In human societies from the beginnings of "civilization" to the present, conditions of dependency for food or protection from invaders has to be widespread among the population, before some psycho can take over and prevent a mass exodus of people looking for freedom. It needs to be noted and underlined that the earliest large permanent settlements - Catalhoyuk-in Southwest Turkey and the first 'city' of Jericho baffled archaeologists for years because its inhabitants never bothered to build walls or any kinds of fortifications. Why did they have no apparent fear of barbarians and other invaders?

This is where we have to ask how much of modern humanist doctrine that heaps scorn on our 'primitive' ancestors is all part of a bullshit narrative that people are innately evil and not altruistic / while increased knowledge, technology and innovations paves the way to an ever brighter and perfect future. There have been so many people in positions of power and great influence since the dawn of the Age of 'Enlighenment' pushing this narrative that contrary evidence that shows the exact opposite is immediately suppressed and pushed to the margins of academia where most of us will never see it. As Coronavirus provides the likely catalyst for the long downward slide of industrial capitalism and its overextended supply chains and debts, growing numbers of people worldwide will have to come to terms with the fact that we've all been driving down a deadend street and have no choice other than turn around and travel in the opposite direction!

*And of course that's why Walking Dead show creators introduced Negan and his gang to invade the three small independent settlements. My main objection is that they are too lazy or too afraid that they would not find familiar storylines that would interest a mass commercial audience to venture out and explore what would change and be different culturally in post-apocalyptic world.

We all know that trump is a worthless asshole but what are you, as an individual, going to do to be able to withstand future disasters? The news is full of stories about how most people don't have any emergency funds regardless of how much money they make. If the Yellowstone volcano blew up tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. what is your getaway plan? If you haven't thought about that can you really blame the bureaucrats for not being prepared for the coronavirus?
If the Yellowstone volcano blew at 9 am tomorrow, my plan would be to be dead, as would most of the people in North America, and the world for that matter, but they'd have a few more days in Australia.

I'm surprised that no one has drug out and dusted off "On the Beach" an old doom and gloom apocalypse movie and declare us in that state right now. On a side note isn't it prophetic that in Orson Welles movie, War of the Worlds, the scientists who are fighting the Martians are escaping Corona, Calif in a light plane?

If you live on the Northeast Coast you could have a day before the ash cloud hits you. The wind would still blow in the usual pattern so it wouldn't be that big of a problem in the Southern States until much later. You would have a lot of time to panic.

Nah, On the Beach is an elgaic movie about the end of the World, after a nuclear war. Everyone (everything?) dies, as a result of radioactivity.

Orson Welles movie, War of the Worlds - Well, no. Welles didn't make a movie of War of the Worlds, he ran a radioplay version of the novel by H. G. Wells, set in contemporary US (1939, New Jersey), & scared a lot of people who missed that it was a radio fantasy. The original serial & novel was by Wells, back in the 1890s, I believe, set in UK.
