Did Donald Trump tweet classified military imagery?

A few reporters on twitter have been speculating on this, but the BBC has the best report I have seen so far.

President Donald Trump has set a new standard for extraordinary presidential behaviour.

Not only has he tweeted what would normally be a highly classified, military-quality satellite image showing the devastation around the launch pad at Iran's main space centre following a significant explosion.

He has gone further by apparently taunting the Iranians, insisting that the US was not involved in the catastrophic accident during final launch preparations," but also wishing Iran "good luck in determining what happened".

Was this presidential sarcasm or misinformation?

Was he implying that somebody else might indeed have been involved?

Or was it just the president's regular habit of responding by saying the first thing that came into his head?

It's hard to say. But, as ever, Mr Trump's intervention raises more questions than it answers.

That's definitely a classified pic, and probably of the "Top Secret" variety. Figures a Russian agent wouldn't have any respect for classified info. And it's not the first time Trump has blathered/revealed classified information.

Hey ... The POTUS decides WHAT is classified and what can be released.
You never served in the military, did you? Never handled classified information in any way?

The PRESIDENT DOES NOT DETERMINE WHAT IS AND IS NOT CLASSIFIED. Get that?? Do you have any idea how many documents are classified each and every year, and you stupidly say "duh, the President determines what is classified". Wow. Not only does Trump NOT determine what is classified or not (thank God, his Master, Putin, would know every secret we have by now), Trump has NO SAY WHATSOEVER in what is/isn't classified. The only thing Trump has any say in is who gets clearances, which is pretty damned foolish in it's own right. Allowing a President to order a top secret clearance for Russian agents isn't beyond the realm of possibility (especially since Trump is obviously acting in Moscow's interest, as indicated by the gross obsequiousness of Trump's Moscow worship at G7).

I think the funniest thing of your entirely nonsensical, inaccurate post was this nugget: "And the military image he posted was of a secret IRANIAN military site". Are you really so stupid you can't see how that comprises us? Now Iran knows exactly what are surveillance capabilities are. Trump, like the low IQ imbecile he is, just keeps letting the cat out of the bag at inopportune times. Why, if I didn't know any better I'd say HE WAS WORKING FOR MOTHER RUSSIA to undermine America and it's interests. How interesting that you and people like yourself keep encouraging Trump to continue with his antics.

Can the President declassify documents?
The President is exclusively responsible for how documents are classified, and so can declassify things by executive order at any time.

Do presidents have 'the ability to declassify anything'?

Everyone should watch the movie, The Imitation Game. During WW2 the Germans were certain their Enigma machines were "unbreakable". Allen Touring, the father of modern computers, and his team of code crackers, BROKE ENIGMA surprisingly early in the war. They knew every order the Germans issued. This however created another problem. How to best use the information ?? They couldn't suddenly start showing up every time the Germans made a move. It wouldn't have taken them long to figure out Enigma was compromised. They created the myth of a "spy" inside the German government who was leaking selective bits and pieces of vital information. The movie doesn't go into further detail, but I'd imagine Germany spent a small fortune in time, energy and resources trying to find the spy. They probably killed more than a few of their own top people as well. The very idea that "someone" was leaking such incredibly vital information must have driven them half nuts when they couldn't find the "spy".

The president has just handed Iran and the entire middle east a huge gift. Not only does the world now know just how good our satellites are, he's revealed WHEN AND WHERE THEY ARE. If you think the Iranians can't take one look at that picture and figure out the day and time it was taken, you're a moron. They can extrapolate from that picture and quickly learn to track our satellite.

And let's not even discuss "issuing a denial" even before the Iranians might have accused us ??

What was the purpose of this ?? Seriously, it smacks of an elementary school yard mentality. When a student gets in trouble or has some unfortunate mishap in school, there always that one kid that just can't help but make some snide comment on it !! Even though they have had the same thing happen. Celebrating other people's misery ? Schadenfreude ?? As if our early space programs weren't littered with exploding missiles and the dead bodies of astronauts ??

So, did he write and sign an EO to release THAT photo?

An Axios reporter noticed this little gem.

  • Maybe a first for a photo credit in The New York Times: "President Trump, via Twitter."
It would be funny if it wasn't so horrendous.

And FYI:

For contrast with the U.S. spy shot, here's a commercial satellite view:

Two things. First I am sure Dotard knows he screwed the pooch this time. He has sent out 54 tweets in the past 17 hours. Even for that tweeter-in-chief, that is a very high output. And most of them are retweets going back two weeks of nice things people have said about him.

Secondly, there is now speculation experts, according the the NYT, that the pic he leaked was in fact too high res for even the best satellite cameras and was probably taken by a spy plane, a direct violation of Iran's airspace.

Hey ... The POTUS decides WHAT is classified and what can be released.

But then again. you never have had the Brightest bulb in the Closed Refrigerator.

And the military image he posted was that of a secret IRANIAN Military site... ROFLMBO..

The more and more I think you have reached the Trough of intelligence you dig the ditch deeper.
'That changes nothing. As I said Trump doesn't give the security classification (DoD does). Trump may be able to alter it, but that isn't the same as deciding what classification something is. That's beside the point anyway, and the point being Donald Trump keeps tweeting free information to America's enemies, over and over and over again. Why, if I didn't know any better, I'd think he was doing it at the order of a foreign leadr.
