McConnell’s speech has broadly argued that the House, by not citing criminal statues, has passed weak articles of impeachment, and that if the Senate convicts the president in a trial it would invite constant impeachment trials.
He continued that if “extraordinary tool of last resort could become part of the arms race” of partisanship.”

President Trump, he said, is not the first president with a “populist streak” and “not the first to make entrenched elites feel uncomfortable”.

Right....well.....McConnell and his team play to the ignorant--the folks who don't understand---haven't done their homework on our constitution and how it lays out the impeachment process. The whole "criminal statutes" thingy is bogus and we both know it. Unfortunately the Cult may NOT understand it. We've seen it dozens of times on DTT.
The "fallback" argument is whatabout the criminal justice system? Whatabout the court system? Whatabout reasonable doubt, fact witnesses, innocent until proven guilty......on and on?
We've heard nothing but whining, "UNFAIR", because the House gets to write it's own rules, and yet THAT is what the constitution requires. So now the GOP has the ball. Will they throw it or play it OR will they take the ball and go home?

Really truly...I don't think McConnell wants the "ball" and he most certainly does NOT want Donny or Rudy to GET the ball. That would be a disaster.
