Sure lets do it! Holiday for all on election day.
First who is going to waste a day off going to the polls? When they already get a half day off to vote anyway.
Who is going to go near the polls if they think there will be longer lines?
We'd have to change the day in order for people to get a 3 day weekend out of it.
The last is saved for the best. Which other holiday is going to be canned for election day?

Term limits would mean that elected officials would have to think about returning to the private sector, and would try to steer huge contracts to their future employers.....

Do you honestly believe they aren't doing that now ?? How many leave congress and turn right around, go to work for some lobbying firm and are right back in the halls of congress chatting up their old pals and former colleagues ?

Several GOP States passed term limits, Robert Byrd, D WVA sued and had them overturned.
Makin' shit up again

Yeah, they do it now, you want all of them to do it?

There are term limits, they are called elections.

One of the ideas floated along with term limits was a provision that no former member of congress could register as a lobbyist or go to work for any company that did business with the federal government for five years. I thought it was brilliant.

HEY GUYS! PLEASE stop hijacking my thread. This thread is not about term limits. About face--PLEASE!

The topic is H.R. 1 and WHY the GOP rejects it.

Sorry Clara. The two are however tied together. The same reasons for not making election day a national holiday are used for not enacting term limits. Of course we could follow many many other countries and move election day to the weekend. When our current dates were set we were mostly an agrarian society and taking a few hours off to go vote, especially since the wife who couldn't vote and the chillins would still be on the farm taking care of chores. But then again the poll workers would expect to be paid which would create a whole new bunch of issues about over time and weekend pay. Of course the evangelicals and the Kim Davis' will refuse to do it on a Sunday for religious reasons. Then there are the seventh day folks who will not want to do it Saturday and of course the observant Jews will reluctant to do it on Friday.

Aw hell just forget elections. Let the corporations pick who represents them.

Reading the bill, there are many reasons why it will not pass.

It funds political campaigns with taxpayer money.

It violates the Constitution ( the liberal version of what the Constitution).

It will force charitiable organizations to release their donor lists.

It would violate the First Amendment by prohibiting oranizations from donating to candidates or PACs.
