Republicans sue to block Michigan redistricting commission

To summarize, the people of Michigan voted in 2018 on proposal 2, a constitutional amendment that would establish an INDEPENDENT commission responsible for drawing fair districts. It passed by a vote of 61%, 39%.

Republicans are suing to block it. It should be noted that Republicans drew the district lines in 2011, took the majority in the state's house and senate, and the winning party in 2020 will be responsible for redrawing the lines in 2021.

Why would anyone object to an independent body being responsible for overseeing our elections? Because to those in power, equality feels like oppression.

This shouldn't be surprising. The group pushing this lawsuit is headed by former WI Governor Scott Walker. While Scott Walker lost the 2018 gubernatorial election, Republicans held 64% of state assembly seats despite only receiving 46% of votes. WI is one of the worst gerrymandered states in the nation.

AND thank God Scott Walker is GONE for good. Someone mentioned in another thread that the GOP (in general) must be scared "shite-less" as 2020 approaches. This is just one more indication that they are hanging on by a thread, cheating/manipulating (if you like that word better) the system in every way possible.
Maybe they think it's the only way they can win?

California went to an independent commision, and after it was implemented, the GOP lost seats in the next election. Seems the Democratic redistricting was helping the GOP. The dunderheads couldn't even figure out how to properly tweak redistricting.
