Socialism is the state controlling the means of production.

Socialized medicine is compulsory, state controlled healthcare. This is what thinking people dissagree w.
So what?
If the state can provide something that everyone requires, something where no workable market exists, why shouldn't the state have a hand in that.

I guess what needs explaining is the morality of a system that confiscates money earned from the labor of others in order to award it to someone who is able to work but unwilling to do so. This process would seem to be indistinguishable from theft with the notable exception that most thieves show more initiative than does the subsidized individual.
It's a good thing we don't have that.
We have a system where the people set the tax rates through their elected representatives.
And our tax system is voluntary, you are not required to engage in activities which require the payment of taxes.

Correct, goober; we don't have a system like that. We do, however, have a proposal in Congress to make our system like that and that's what I was speaking to.

You said it was a proposal in congress, so if it takes the form of law, it will have been put in place by our elected representatives, that's what is supposed to happen in a Republic.

Slavery was kept in place by a Republic. Japanese-Americans were sent to internment camps by a Republic.

And no, I'm not saying AOC's plan is as bad as these extreme examples; I chose them to make the point that there's a difference between legal and moral.

Raising taxes is what the congress is there for.
She is proposing that we return to tax rates that we had, when deficits weren't a problem, and when the middle class was seeing great improvements.
The current tax rates will destroy the country.

Nonsense.

In fact, the so-called "cost of carbon abatement" isn't utilized as a factor in the LCOE calculations that were done in that Lazard study, the methodology of which is shown on .pdf slide #14 (or on page #13) of the report of said study.

It is on page 15 as I posted.

Because many people do not desire to live in that dystopian, authoritarian world.

So, emigrate to Zimbabwe....
The point is most people want access to health care and they want everyone to have access to health care, and they really don't care about the details, the market failed to provide this, and has driven the cost through the roof.
If the government can provide them with health care for less money, they love it.
And in a Republic, that's what they should have.
