The researchers estimated, based on these findings, that a 1oC increase in average temperature — a fairly conservative estimate of climate change in the following decades — will likely yield a 6% increase in violent crime rates, as many as 25,000 more serious and deadly assaults per year in the United States alone.

Global Warming and Violent Behavior

With climate change, regional mean temperatures in the U.S. are expected to rise between 3.6 and 7.2°F by 2100.

The nature of the relationship is not only of intrinsic importance, but is central to the question of how violent crime-related morbidity and mortality might change in a warming climate.

The complex origins of violent crime have been widely documented. According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), weather is one of many factors affecting its incidence. Others include:

  • individual characteristics, e.g., psychological and physiological status and behavioral indicators
  • population density, degree of urbanization, and age distribution
  • population stability with respect to mobility and transience
  • socio-economic conditions
  • family cohesiveness and divorce rates
  • effectiveness of law enforcement agencies
  • citizens' attitudes toward crime and crime reporting

Cornell is a large, primarily residential research university with a majority of enrollments in undergraduate programs.[104] The university has been accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education since 1921.[105] Cornell operates on a 4–1–4 academic calendar with the fall term beginning in late August and ending in early December, a three-week winter session in January, and the spring term beginning in late January and ending in early May.[106]

Cornell, Oregon State University, Pennsylvania State University, and University of Hawaii at Manoa are the only institutions to be members of all four Land Grant, Sea Grant, Space Grant, and Sun Grant programs.

Relating to global warming/climate change, I just watched the second episode of "What's Eating America". It was a real eye-opener! The public is mostly on board, and farmers are nearly all onboard, with the climate science and are worried. Oysters are now almost non-existent in the main oyster beds of S.E. US. Many foods, and even coffee and chocolate crops, are diminishing. The projection is that in a very few years we will either be unable to buy coffee, or it will cost way too much to buy. Same with chocolate. They say we will have no more coffee or hot chocolate at all. And all crops from corn to apples are in trouble.

If you think people are beginning to get agitated about climate change now, just wait until people can't feed their families due to availability or cost or both!

I have been waiting for years for the elites of Hollywood that own property in South Beach, Miami FL to sell their multi million dollar homes for dirt cheap, for this great fear of flooding. When is this event going to happen? I need a good retirement plan.
