could you leave your gun on the table (unchambered) or would you feel the need to lock it up when you walked in the door?

there's only me and my spouse now, so it would be fine - even though we keep my gun locked in my nightstand if we have guests.

when my son was growing up and lived with us, I kept it locked away all the time and rarely carried it out with us unless I thought we were going someplace potentially dangerous.

we were worried when the kids were smaller, now not so much, but went to a friends house in BFE. the little ones own rifles and as soon as they walk in door, unloaded, cleaned and in safe. i respected that. though we don't take out (real guns) in our house a .40 or a .25 can still do damage. different world.

To date, the only times I've ever used my gun is on the range for target practice. I'm not a hunter, so I've never had any reason to shoot at anything. Thank god - it would have been a person if I had...and who needs that?????

Sorry, but I don't get it. The topic is "how well do you know your family" and it's about guns??
But I do have a question. Our sons are hunters and No.1 son has a small gun collection. He recently added a pistol? And wanted a concealed carry permit. He decided to take a class and was telling us about the class, which was like an 8 hour deal--went to a range and had an instructor, etc. Then he said "OR I could have just taken an online class and gotten the permit." I'm like....wait. YOU can get a concealed carry permit by going online? Seriously? No. 1 son says "YEP and not only that, in some states the permit does exempt you from the background check."
What the heck?? It takes 45 minutes and $70 buckaroos and YOU TOO can have a concealed carry permit. MY outrage is at an all time high. HOW is this possible? No wonder we've got MURDER on our minds.

What does the ease of getting a concealed carry permit have to do with thinking about murder? Murder is not legal last time I checked. If someone wants to commit murder, why would they be worried about concealed carry laws? It seems to me they wouldn't give a damn if concealed carry without a permit is illegal if they don't give a damn that murder is illegal.

Okay, I'll admit that the "murder" was hyperbole, but it should not be so easy to get a concealed carry permit. Aren't we trying to keep guns out of the hands of criminals and mentally deficient people??
