Andrew Yang for president 2020 and would implement a Universal Basic Income, ‘The Freedom Dividend,’ of $1,000/month, $12,000 a year for every American adult over the age of 18. This is independent of one’s work status or any other factor. This would enable all Americans to pay their bills, educate themselves, start businesses, be more creative, stay healthy, relocate for work, spend time with their children, take care of loved ones, and have a real stake in the future.
  • Any change to The Freedom Dividend would require a constitutional amendment.
  • It will be illegal to lend or borrow against one’s Dividend.
  • If one does not graduate from high school, your dividend does not begin until 20.
A Universal Basic Income at this level would permanently grow the economy by 12.56 to 13.10 percent—or about $2.5 trillion by 2025—and it would increase the labor force by 4.5 to 4.7 million people. Putting money into people’s hands and keeping it there would be a perpetual boost and support to job growth and the economy.

And no touching welfare benefits - right?
That sounds like a real vote getter, from the sixty million on welfare.

Short answer, no. Get off your tail and get earning your own money. We already have too many people riding in the wagon and need more pulling it.

Interesting concept. Anyone know of any other western nation that has such a benefit and what their experience has been with it.
On the surface, without much examination, it would seem that if every adult American suddenly had an extra $1,000.00/mo. that would stimulate a LOT of buying to the point a lot of businesses would hire more people, expand business and of course pay more in taxes.

Yes. If you have even an elementary understanding of economics. First lesson. Giving rich people tax cuts stimulates nothing. Second lesson. Consumer spending is the economy, and what is the real driver of GDP. His theory is sound. By putting that money in working class peoples hands, it actually gets spent at stores, shops, and services that generates real growth in the economy.
