More Than 500 Attacks on US Muslims this year

1. Islamophobia watchdogs have identified more than 500 potentially anti-Muslim incidents in the U.S. since the start of the year. And that’s probably a low estimate.....

It’s part of a troubling trend of hate that started surging in 2015, said Abbas Barzegar, national research and advocacy director at the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR).

CAIR’s chapters across the country track anti-Muslim bias incidents. Although their numbers are still tentative, the count is troubling.

“We’ve already reported over 500 incidences of anti-Muslim bias or harassment just this year so far,” Barzegar told The Daily Beast. “That’s very preliminary reporting. I know a number of our chapters have not filed their reports yet… I believe that’s a very low estimate already of what’s happening across the country.”...

Anti-Muslim hate had a “demonstrable uptick” in the 2015 election cycle, Barzegar said. Donald Trump’s campaign, which arrived midway through that year, capitalized on the hate.

“It was the rhetoric coming out of Trump’s campaign that certified that,” Barzegar said. “We started to see things in Trump’s campaign, rhetoric-wise, that was typically very far off on the margins: things you would find on far-right radio or the outskirts of the internet. Now it’s becoming so acceptable and mainstream.”....

2. Erik Love, a professor at Dickinson College and the author of Islamophobia and Racism in America, said that Muslims in the US are living in an unprecedented time.

"Here we are in a way that's unprecedented since at least the 1960s. We have the American president speaking from the bully pulpit of the White House, speaking as the leader of the free world, using explicitly racist language directed at members of Congress," he told Al Jazeera.

In addition to pursuing policies, such as rescinding the travel ban and rolling back discriminatory counterterror operations like the FBI's use of confidential informants in Muslim communities, engaging with Muslims at an historic event like this week's Muslim Collective for Equitable Democracy should be a priority for politicians and presidential candidates, Love said.

"An event like this is really important because it highlights the way that Islamophobia is not a small sideshow in American politics; it is central to the way that American politics plays out today," Love said....

3. Western countries, particularly the US, try to keep up appearances of religious tolerance but what's happening on the ground is entirely different. Just look at the massacre of thousands of Bosnian Muslims in 1995. Bosnian Muslims are Europeans, yet their own kind tried to wipe them off the map because of religion.

In the US, Trump and his supporters ramped up attacks on Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib, the first two Muslim women in Congress. He accused Rep. Ilhan Omar of professing a “love” for al Qaeda and talking about “how great” and “how wonderful” al Qaeda is.

If a Muslim runs for president in the US, the white propaganda machine would focus its attack on his or her religion as though non-Christians are unfit to govern the country. For instance, Donald Trump was making headlines for questioning the place of birth and religion of President Barack Obama as far back as 2011.

The white propaganda machine also alleges two Democrats (Kamala Harris and Elizabeth Warren) who have announced their candidacy for the Presidency, have direct ties to the Muslim Brotherhood and the American Communist Party.

Islamophobia is particularly dangerous in the US because of the easy access to guns. Any Tom, Dick, or Harry could fire at any Muslim or attack a mosque at will. :)

Muslims are far safer in America then in the Middle East, where Muslims kill Muslims, or in China were the CCP is leading the persecution.

Send CAIR to China, where I suppose that the Muslims are placed in detention and reeducation camps for their own protection.

BEIJING — When Turkey’s leader, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, visited Beijing this summer, he hailed a new Silk Road bridging Asia and Europe. He welcomed big Chinese investments for his beleaguered economy. He gushed about China’s sovereignty.

But Mr. Erdogan, who has stridently promoted Islamic values in his overwhelmingly Muslim country, was largely silent on the incarceration of more than one million Turkic Muslims in China’s western region of Xinjiang, and the forced assimilation of millions more. It was an about-face from a decade ago, when he said the Uighurs there suffered from, “simply put, genocide” at the hands of the Chinese government.

Like Mr. Erdogan, the world has been noticeably quiet about Xinjiang, where China has built a vast network of detention camps and systematic surveillance over the past two years in a state-led operation to convert Uighurs into loyal, secular supporters of the Communist Party. Even when diplomats have witnessed the problems firsthand and privately condemned them, they have been reluctant to go public, unable to garner broad support or unwilling to risk financial ties with China.

China Wants the World to Stay Silent on Muslim Camps. It’s Succeeding.

Mosque demolitions across China raise fears over escalating persecution of Uighur Muslims

Sounds like Muslims need to flee the barbaric United States immediately and go to places where they are safe. I hear Yemen's nice this time of year.

Shall we call this argument fallacy whatboutism, false equivalence fallacy, or tu quoquo?

Point isn't where are they safer at. The point is why are they not safer in America.

Point is, there are attacks on Christians and Jews in this country also, some perpetrated by Muslims. There are haters everywhere, not just here. Someone that defends the CCP and China should first put aside the hypocrisy and recognized that the country that he continuously criticizes is far safer for Muslims than the country that he constantly praises due to official government policies based on bigotry.

This sort of excuse making has been the justification for a lot of violence in a lot of countries--- somewhere else is always worse.
We cannot make China safer; we can make the USA safer. Justifying violence in that fashion is a poorly concealed rationalization for inaction and apathy.

Other then attacks in the US by White Supremacists, on Christians, and Jews, or Sikhs, I have heard of none by Muslims. Care to cite some examples?

I find it interesting that 9-11, San Bernadino, and the Shoe Bomber remain in the collective memory but somehow we dismiss Oklahoma City, Pittsburgh Synagogue, the multiple events in Las Vegas, Charleston church shooting (among many others) which were arguably RWinger home-grown gun wacko anti-guvmint, anti-Semitic, anti-black terrorist/ hate crime events.
