How low will these No on 8 thugs stoop?
A new commercial against proposition 8 in California is expected to fuel the fire of an already heated debate over gay marriage.
The commercial depicts two Mormon missionaries invading the home of a same sex couple.
In the commercial they knock on the door, say they are from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and tell a lesbian couple “we are here to take away your rights.”
They enter the home take the women’s rings, ransack the house looking for their marriage license, find it, and then tear it up.
At the end, the missionaries was away saying, “that was too easy, yeah, what should we ban next?”
“The message behind the commercial is the Mormon Church is literally invading the houses of Californians through their TV sets, spreading lies and taking peoples lives away from them,” said Rick Jacobs with the Courage Campaign. “The church has been hiding behind its secrecy.”
According to Jacobs the 1:00 commercial will air tomorrow morning – Election Day - in various parts of California. It’s expected to be on MSNBC and CNN.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is not happy with the tactics used in this commercial.
Scott Trotter with the Church released this statement,
“The Church has joined a broad-based coalition in defense of traditional marriage. While we feel this is important to all of society, we have always emphasized that respect be given to those who feel differently on this issue. It is unfortunate that some who oppose this proposition have not given the Church this same courtesy.”
