The human race is devolving, and the officer gets presumably a paid leave while the PD figures out the consequences of killing a person committing the crime of being in their apartment.

Off-duty officer entered wrong apartment,
shot and killed resident
Dallas police are investigating a deadly shooting involving an off-duty police officer.
According to news release, the officer arrived home around 10 p.m. Thursday after working a full shift. Police said she was in full uniform when she walked into an apartment she thought was her own and fired her weapon at the man inside.
Fellow officers were called to the scene where they administered first aid to the 26-year-old victim. Police said he was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The officer who fired the shots was not injured. The police department said she will be placed on administrative leave while an investigation is completed.

If this were a normal citizen, they would be in handcuffs and in jail.
Obviously the police have more "rights" than the rest of us...

Yeah, but second amendment, and the flag, and liberty, and apple pie IT.

We have to respect our police, and this is the price of freedom.

So offer your thoughts and prayers, and be a good little patriot, and realize that to protest or take any actions is to disrespect the troops.

Besides, it was probably one of those people anyway. No what I mean?

What does the 2nd Amendment (not to mention, the flag, liberty, and apple pie) have to do with this? Even if we had a total ban on guns, it would not apply to law enforcement, and she would still have her gun and would still be able to use it to kill this guy.

I suppose if this guy had been armed, and shot and killed her, he'd probably be arrested and charged with being a cop killer (assuming the cops who responded didn't kill him anyways).

If you don't even know which apartment is yours, you don't deserve to be a police officer.
You're right about that. I think a reasonable person will assume that she'll be thanked for her service and dismissed from the force; will this be the case here, or will she be allowed to continue to work as a LEO?

Maybe she just needs a functioning brain. She needs to go to jail for life. She entered someone's apartment and killed them. That's breaking and entering and murder.
Yeah, she needs a functioning brain too. She needs to be charged and tried and treated in the legal system no differently from someone else who isn't a LEO and has done the same thing.
