Risking nuclear war again .... Can't we just be friends?

Before the election, Trump claimed Hillary was a warmonger who would raise the odds of a nuclear WWIII.

This specific situation has been festering for a while, Putin recently accusing the US of preparing to stage a false flag chemical weapons attack to justify US escalations. One thing, for sure: that is a possibility.

US Marines launch live-fire air assault into Syria desert in 'strong message' to Russia
More than 100 U.S. Marines launched an air assault in the southern Syrian desert backed by artillery fire to send a “strong message” to Russia not to send their forces inside a restricted area near an American military outpost, two U.S. defense officials have told Fox News.
The show of forces comes as the leaders of Iran, Russia and Turkey are meeting Friday in Tehran to hammer out their next steps in the seven-year Syrian civil war ahead of an expected offensive led by Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s forces into the country’s northwest Idlib Province.
On two separate occasions this month (Sept. 1 and Sept. 6), the Russian military warned its American counterparts of its intention to conduct a military operation in southern Syria near the At Tanf garrison where U.S. special operations forces are located.
Twice the U.S. military has told the Russians to back off.
“The United States does not seek to fight the Russians, the government of Syria or any groups that may be providing support to Syria in the Syrian civil war,” Navy Capt. William Urban, a spokesman for U.S. Central Command, said in a statement.
“The U.S. does not require any assistance in our efforts to destroy ISIS.”
...The warning appeared to have been ignored after Russian jets began bombarding Idlib....
...The rare show of force in Syria comes months after U.S. aircraft -- including AC-130 gunships, jets and bombers -- killed roughly 300 Russian mercenaries near Deir al-Zor in eastern Syria after American special operations forces came under attack....

Certainly, in Idlib are members of rebel forces we once supported. They're about to be pulverized, as is Idlib. Let's say, chemical weapons are used by the Syrian forces with Russian forces participating in the siege of Idlib.

Idlib is in northwestern Syria.

What is Trump going to do?

US weighs 'options' if chemical weapon used in Syria's Idlib
The top US military official has said he is involved in "routine dialogue" with the Trump administration to discuss the military options available if chemical weapons are used in an expected assault on the Syrian rebel-held province of Idlib.
Marine General Joseph Dunford, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said on Saturday that no decision had been made by the United States to employ military force in response to a future chemical attack in Syria.
"But we are in a dialogue, a routine dialogue, with the president to make sure he knows where we are with regard to planning in the event that chemical weapons are used," he told a small group of reporters during a trip to India.
Dunford later added: "He expects us to have military options and we have provided updates to him on the development of those military options."
Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has massed his army and allied forces on the front lines in the northwest, and Russian planes have joined his bombardment of rebels there in a prelude to a widely expected assault despite objections from Turkey.
This week, a top US envoy said there was "lots of evidence" that chemical weapons were being prepared by Syrian government forces in Idlib.
