(Reuters) - Saudi Arabia's King Salman, in a telephone call on Sunday with U.S. President Donald Trump, agreed to support safe zones in Syria and Yemen, a White House statement said.

Trump, during his presidential campaign last year, had called for Gulf states to pay for establishing safe zones to protect Syrian refugees.

A statement after the phone call said the two leaders agreed on the importance of strengthening joint efforts to fight the spread of Islamic State militants.

"The president requested, and the King agreed, to support safe zones in Syria and Yemen, as well as supporting other ideas to help the many refugees who are displaced by the ongoing conflicts," the statement said.

The Saudi Press Agency, in an initial readout of the call, made no specific mention of safe zones, but said the two leaders had affirmed the "depth and durability of the strategic relationship" between the two countries.

What the heck is that crazy dictator doing now? It sounds like he is trying to find a place for the "rufugees" to go in their part of the world. Man, that sounds just bananas to think that displaced people would have a better chance of success in a place that they are familiar w/. Who's language and customs that they already know making their skills instantly more valuable. What a tyrant.

Besides, if The Donald starts making deals with the Saudis, who abuse women, he will be no better than those scummy Clintons who took Saudi cash.

I'm still stuck on the fact that the Saudis are both the #1 exporter of terrorists in the world (to get rid of surplus young men who will never get a woman in SA) and, in collaboration with Gulf States - the funders of Al Qaeda, ISIS and other "moderate rebels."

If Donald was serious about preventing terrorists from entering the US, Saudi Arabia and Qatar would be on the banned list....but that would require coughing up the billions of dollars invested in Washington in bribes and lobbyists.
