BECAUSE Venezuela's dependence on oil sales hollowed out their economy!
I can't fit everything in a post. I thought you were aware of these things, and wouldn't need spoonfeeding!
Venezuela is not and has never been a truly socialist country in anything more than the social democratic sense, a mostly privately owned economy with sizable social programs to balance out disparities in wealth.

EVERY economy where oil production and export becomes greater than 50% of its GDP, ends up hollowing out as oil revenues overwhelm all other production. There is only one exception to the rule.........Norway! Perhaps because Norway is a social democratic society where the public sector provides benefits for everyone and has progressive income taxation to limit the gaps in income. And the Government is about the only major oil producer in the world that has managed to squirrel away its share of oil revenues into a national capital fund that is in the billions (I haven't looked up the number recently) while Canada, including the Province of Alberta, Alaska and ME nations like Saudi Arabia are burning through their sovereign wealth funds and will have nothing left in a few short years.

Venezuela has spent a large amount of its oil profits on building housing and social programs for the poor, but unlike Norway, they haven't been saving for a rainy day!
You're walking it back. I didn't compose your post so don't blame it on me. All you needed to do was to be honest.

I'm walking it back? What the fuck have you been doing on this thread?
Let's review:
In your post#17 you responded to my contention to Gordy (wasn't even talking to you, so who the fuck is butting in and acting superior?):
"Venezuela's dependence on oil sales hollowed out their economy like so many other oil-producing nations"

Yes, but remember that there are several Middle Eastern countries that successfully fund themselves with oil production. Alaska residents also benefit from oil money, as you know I'm sure.
In effect, you were trying to deny or negate my point which was made right in the first fucking video (The Venezuela Crisis) in your second post on this thread! #9
Early in that video, the narrator makes the point that when the oil industry first took off in Venezuela, agricultural exports crashed! Now, what the hell does that tell you? Or did you even bother to watch your source material? You jumped on my post#15 for no goddammed reason other than you felt the need to try to correct me again because I am not a political theorist!

My ultimate point....which also should be obvious...is that oil is toxic....not only to the environment, but also to maintaining a well balanced mixed economy! A rightwing oil-export dependent state is left with nothing else working, and so is a leftwing oil producer. Norway being the outlier, it's believed because oil weren't all allowed to circulate in the economy. Norway was about the only major world oil producer that started putting away oil profits for the future, and not letting everyone go hogwild living it up on oil revenues.

So, it's about the nature of the resource, NOT whether left or right political approaches are taken to developing it.

Ok you can't discuss anything. I'm ignoring you.
