This is just beautiful. A clear demonstration of the absurdity of "hate crimes". The lefty mind is a maze of rules that will trip you up and land you in a land of total confusion and insanity.

The fact is, without details of the police report, it is all speculation.

Ms. Deangelis does not know what a hate crime is or what the statute means, so she writes an asinine artilce..

Typical.

What if the man is white? Do we have a black on white "hate crime"? The point is your pals use "hate crime" speak when it suits you, not logically. That's the purpose of "hate crime" laws.

We have assault laws on the books. When a citizen assaults another citizen, we have laws and have had laws for hundreds of years. That's not good enough for you. You need to use race and sexual orientation. That is racist and sexist, but don't let that get in the way of your pretzel logic.

Yes actually we do....because hate crimes legislation only states that the perceived race of a victim can be criteria for prosecuting a crime as a hate crime....it does not specify which race. Same for religion, sex, national origin and disability and, in some cases sexual orientation and gender identity.

This is beautiful. Let's carry out this logic..........

So these lesbians could be guilty of two "hate crimes"......race and sexual orientation, not to mention just plain ordinary assault. Right?

What we now know as "hate crime" legislation grew out of measures drawn up at the height of the Civil Rights struggle -- and those made sense.

Basically, they made it a federal crime to target a specific group of people, to try to prevent them from participating in a federally-protected activity -- such as voting or going to school. So, in other words, federal jurisdiction could be brought to bear if the local redneck thugs in a Dixie town were trying to terrorize blacks out of voting there.

That made sense. As it would also make sense, for example, to make it a federal offense to deliberately try to terrorize gays out of voting.

Since then, that concept has morphed into contemporary "hate crime" laws which, frankly, are a massive case of judicial retardation.

Looks like we've got another ignorant wingnut here who doesn't understand what hate crime penalty enhancers are.

Yes, we're all ignorant bigots around here. We've got that.

Now, are these 3 black lesbians guilty of hate crimes if this guy is white?

I don't know the details of the case. Without an arrest record of what happened, I can't speculate on why this may be considered a hate crime.

I disagree. Let me give you an example. Let's say a bunch of hooligans get drunk at a party and then they go out and maraud through town and they throw a brick through the window of a synagogue. They don't know it is a synagogue, it wouldn't matter because they are just drunk and being foolhardy and engaging in pack mentality.

Now, a week later, some neo Nazis target the same synagogue, and they vandalize it and spray paint anti-semitic things on the side of it.

Do you think that the hooligans and the Neo Nazis should be prosecuted exactly the same way?

The Neo Nazis, IMO, have now engaged in a form of terrorism, they are sending a message to all the Jews in the community to terrorize them.

Whereas the hooligans were just pranksters with no agenda other than to be mischievous.
