The Trump administration’s first year of immigration policy has relied on claims that immigrants bring crime into America. President Trump’s latest target is sanctuary cities.
“Every day, sanctuary cities release illegal immigrants, drug dealers, traffickers, gang members back into our communities,” he said last week. “They’re safe havens for just some terrible people.”
As of 2017, according to Gallup polls, almost half of Americans agreed that immigrants make crime worse. But is it true that immigration drives crime? Many studies have shown that it does not.

Immigrants, even those without papers, are typically in the US to work - to send money home, or to save up enough to return home & put up a house or open a business. For the immigrants who are here working purely for economic reasons, the last thing they want to do is get entangled in our justice system. They work, keep a low profile, & probably don't venture much out of areas where they can get by speaking their native language. The immigrants who are here fleeing criminal records or prosecution in their home country are a different matter.

Immigration policy weighs heavily against the legal immigration of immigrants with serious criminal records. If those people are here, those are the ones we need to identify & prosecute. This has typically been US policy for the last few decades - focus on any illegal immigrants with criminal records, expedite their detention & prosecution &, if guilty, their expulsion from the US. Once detained, I assume that fingerprints, photos, genetic swabs (?) are taken of the subjects, for ID if they enter the US again.

It is illegal to work in the US without a permit. Additionally in working here there break numerous other laws including tax evasion, money laundering, and identity theft just to name a few.

OY!! Why is it that NO ONE on the Right complains about the EMPLOYERS who EMPLOY illegal EMPLOYEES???

Stop complaining about the immigrants. Start arresting the EMPLOYERS. Problem solved. No jobs. No illegals.

ICE!! DO YOUR JOB!! Hiring and harboring illegals IS A FELONY. Crossing the border illegally is a misdemeanor.
Wake up people!!

That is a lie. I think the employer should be find $1,000,000 dollars for every illegal immigrant they do not E-Verify, to see if they are legal or illegal status.

All attempts to mandate the use of eVerify have been thwarted by dems.
