Jesus and Socrates were both executed because they didn't follow the ruling system where they lived. In Jesus's case that was colonialism, in Socrates's democracy.

It is less likely that Buddha's word's were cherry picked since he actively dissuaded people from looking at him as a divine figurehead of any kind. The attribution of divinity that is commonly given took place after Buddha's death if I am remembering my history correctly.
In terms of Biblical tradition, the good, bad, and ugly are all laid out for ya. The patriarchs of the Bible are made human as we see men like Moses and David to be murderers. Even the closest disciple of Jesus, Peter, betrays him.

Yet Jesus remains perfect.

Yet Jesus remains perfect.
Peter didn't exactly betray Jesus, he just didn't yell out his support for him. Judas is the one who betrayed the Jesus character, probably because he was related to him.
