This is the sort of thing that keeps me leaning to the right

Since I never went to university, I lean to the left!

From a strictly outsider perspective it seems to me that the right blows these issues that hardly affect anyone on campus out of all proportion while the real story should be about how colleges and universities are going back to being what they were originally intended for: places where only the rich can afford to have their privileged children educated.

All the blathering about the trials of political correctness are likely intended to drown out some other troubling issues about how so many university departments, like economics and MBA programs especially, are being privatized and turned over to big corporate interests who earn the right to approve or even handpick professors that suit their rightwing ideologies, in return for the money they offer to the university.

Nevertheless, from what I read, I consider college and university issues to be a fishbowl that doesn't often have a whole lot to do with what's going on in the outside world!
Bingo, give this man a cigar. Ignoring the private special interest money flowing into universities while pointing to an anecdotal student protest is to miss the forest for the trees.

I don't mean to be disrespectful, Panther, BUT what do you know about St. Olaf College? I assume Sabcat is acquainted with St. Olaf but would be truly surprised if any other posters KNOW much about St. Olaf.

St. Olaf College is located in Northfield, MN. It was founded to foster education for Norwegian immigrant students. It is a private, Lutheran, liberal arts college. Population: 3000+ According to their website they have 1 Native American student, 213 Asians, 77 Blacks, 2 Native Hawaiians, and 180 Hispanics.
The tuition is over $54,000/yr. Students call themselves "Oles". It is a beautiful campus...very prestigious.

Do you see where I'm going with this?? St. Olaf has some pretty upper-crust kids and usually that means liberal bias.
Add to all the above, what I like to call, The Young and the Restless--the high ideals and spunk that comes with college students.

Like it or not, it's the way our small private colleges tick these days.
Your not being disrespectful at all. It's a fair question. Like the rest of us, my information is limited to the reports provided for any of us to read concerning events happening across the country.

Not discussing what's factual but my opinion only. Im at work so i can't give a more detailed response. I can later after 5 if you need more clarification.

But when the Alt-right marches in Charlottesville giving the Nazi salute and chanting “Jews will not replace us”, that is just good ole boys exercising their right to free speech, right ?
Nah! That's just good ol' fashioned assholery on display.

Ok, i guess i dont get this whole meme about college campuses being anti-right or what-the-fuck-ever they are crying about. Have any of these people actually been in our classrooms and heard the discussions, difference in opinions, and debates? somehow i seriously doubt it........
Unfortunately, there is no study or data that confirms or denies their complaints.Judging however, by our conversations and the shitfest they turn into, i think a case can made for both the left and right moderates having their opinions shouted down by the intolerant fringes.

You disregard the institutional ways that the right does this. You observe the left because their efforts are usually grass roots. The Koch brothers and their affiliated groups donate money to over 100 universities in this country to establish the college of this or the college of that. They get to choose the subject matter and the instructors. These instructors bounce back and forth between the Heritage foundation and other right wing organizations and the colleges. This is a much more pervasive intolerance and indoctrination but much less visible. Grass roots efforts are always more visible.
One of the few areas in which i disagree with you is when you paint with a broad brush.

Noted. Also noted is the disregard for an opposing opinion.

At this point, the right leaning of this nation are supporting and endorsing and cheering on of a lying, cheating, dishonest, mean, vicious, petty, vindictive, unqualified, racist, homophobic, Xenophobic, war-mongering, whore-mongering, coarse, common, crude vulgarian whom they elected President of my nation.

It is going to take a LOT for me to ever regain the respect I once had for them.

Privatized or public, makes no difference to me like it does for everyone else. I've seen too many videos and read too many articles to disregard the complaintsfrom either left or right wing having their speech shut down because others didnt like their opinions.
