Trump Releases Chilling New Nationalistic Re-Election Ad That Pits Key Democrats Against 'Our People'
Chants of 'USA! USA! USA!'
Chants of 'USA! USA! USA!'
President Donald Trump has released a new campaign re-election ad that invokes disturbing themes of nationalism and attacks key Democrats as being against "our people" – as if Democrats are not Americans.
During his State of the Union address last week President Trump tried to make it appear as if he would be adopting a new bipartisan approach, but his remarks in the days since have refuted that performance. The ad is an obvious attempt to divide, label Democrats as un-American, and any who oppose Trump as not "our people."
His ad highlights those few attempts, with clips from Trump's address in which he says, "I call upon all of us to set aside our differences, to seek out common ground and to summon the unity we need to deliver for the people we were elected to serve."
Titled "Disgraceful," the 60-second spot also shows Trump trumpeting what he claims are his accomplishments, including jobs and lower unemployment, while showing top Democrats sitting, refusing to stand.
Trump on Monday called those same Democrats "treasonous" for not standing and applauding him.
A chyron at the bottom of the ad imposed over the images of Democrats reads in block letters: "DISRESPECTING OUR PEOPLE," and later, "DISRESPECTING OUR COUNTRY."
It ends: "IT'S DISGRACEFUL."

Michal S. Glassner, Executive Director of Donald J. Trump for President, Inc., in a statement to The Hill reinforced the "our people" nationalistic theme.
He said, "our ad demonstrates that the unprecedented expressions of disrespect shown by the Democrats towards our people and our country were also profound – for the wrong reasons."
Among those the Trump ad targets are Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-WI), and Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL).
There have been few if any televised State of the Union addresses in which members of the party not in power stand and applauding the president, especially over policies positions they do not share.

Trump claimed credit during his State of the Union for African-American unemployment "at the lowest rate ever recorded," which not only is totally false, but Trump did nothing to achieve that result – which is why Democrats refused to stand. Trump's claims on wages and jobs growth are also flawed at best, which, again, is at least part of the reason Democrats refused to stand and applaud.

My question to the right wing members of this forum: do you agree that disagreeing - and/or even disliking - with the President is equal to disrespecting, dislike, and dishonor for our country? Do you believe that he has crossed a line when he says that people who are against him are not "us" - not Americans? Are you willing to admit that this is a chilling reminder of other countries in other times when one's patriotism and love of country is adjudicated by loyalty and affection for a leader of that country? Do you truly agree with all this - or do you merely consider it a game?
