U.S. Uninsured Rate Rises to Four-Year High

  • The U.S. uninsured rate has risen steadily since 2016
  • Women, younger adults, the lower-income have the greatest increases
  • All regions except for the East reported increases
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The U.S. adult uninsured rate stood at 13.7% in the fourth quarter of 2018, according to Americans' reports of their own health insurance coverage, its highest level since the first quarter of 2014. While still below the 18% high point recorded before implementation of the Affordable Care Act's individual health insurance mandate in 2014, today's level is the highest in more than four years, and well above the low point of 10.9% reached in 2016. The 2.8-percentage-point increase since that low represents a net increase of about seven million adults without health insurance…

Yep, 7 million people lost the heir insurance in just two years under Trump and Republicans. They just got their asses handed to them in the midterms over this very issue that ranked number 1 with voters.

Looks like they didn’t get the message the first time. Except being able to add the fact that they can’t keep the government open and have exposed a level of corruption not seen before, the Democrats can use the same campaign platform with those added to it.

I have found that assumptions about Trump and his brand of identity politics often do not turn out as expected. While I agree with you, I hesitate to make predictions about future elections or his favorability as there is a segment of the population who are so certain and biased that even blatant hypocrisy, probable corruption, and self-serving inconsistency does not influence their support for him. What should have been just outlying wacko politics and extremist nonsense got legitimized. This grand fiction of ideas and fraudulent Trump Presidency has given them a solid reality. The capacity for rational thought while always a bit shaky in American politics has been completely undermined and, like any fiction, any outcome is possible.

“We’re going to have insurance for everybody,” Trump said in an interview with The Washington Post. “There was a philosophy in some circles that if you can’t pay for it, you don’t get it. That’s not going to happen with us.”
Yeah! And Mexico is going to pay for the wall, and he's going to put Hillary in jail, drain the swamp, release his taxes, he wouldn't be playing golf, etc. etc. etc. :vomit::vomit::vomit::vomit:

Speaking from a nation that, like the majority of countries in the world, has a public health insurance system and considers healthcare to be an essential public service, I'd like to know what all of you loyal Democrats are going to do about your Party leaders and the majority of your announced presidential candidates who are blathering about "improving" health care NOT public health care let alone: Medicare For All?

Up here, our provincial-administered healthcare systems are under siege and chipped away at every time a Conservative government takes office and finds ways to privatize medical services and allow "extra" billing for patients who can afford better health care options for themselves.

Eventually, unless the US turns back the creeping global privatization which tries to turn everything into corporate profit opportunities, the rest of us will be sucked in by the Great Attractor also. Except this one isn't a giant cosmic blob of some unknown origins far away that won't have an effect for billions of years, this one is here and now and getting more ruthless and desperate as global capitalists tear up and burn the furniture in the house to keep their profit fires burning!

I don't expect hell to freeze over/ or Trump to invoke Medicare For All, but aside from Bernie, what other announced candidate is talking about the same or similar plan? And I don't mean the bullshit word games using terms like "Improving" or "Strengthening" the ACL .....which depends on and rewards the same private insurance kleptocrats who created the mess in the first place!

Do you want excuses, explanations, or ideology?
