For more than a millennium, scholars have noticed a curious correlation: Atheists tend to be more intelligent than religious people.

It's unclear why this trend persists, but researchers of a new study have an idea: Religion is an instinct, they say, and people who can rise above instincts are more intelligent than those who rely on them.

People that think outside the box, tend to be smarter than those who worship the box.

If you divided a population into two groups, one group had figured something out, and the other group hadn't, which group do you imagine would have the higher average intelligence?

How could it be unclear why? Seems pretty obvious they are to me.

Being an atheist doesn’t make you smarter, being smarter means you’re more likely to be an atheist.

Like a religious nut would allow themselves to understand the difference.

Nearly everyone in our society starts out with religion, some people figure out it's hokum, some do not.
All religious beliefs contain logical inconsistencies, the more intelligent a person is, the more likely they are to see these inconsistencies, and the more curious(curiosity being a trait associated with higher intelligence) they are, the more likely they are to explore explanations.

I remember the exact moment when the whole religious house of cards in my brain came rushing down, and God stopped being real.
There were years of thinking that went into it, but it all came together in a few seconds.

Leftism is a Religion

You cannot understand the Left if you do not understand that leftism is a religion. It is not God-based (some left-wing Christians’ and Jews’ claims notwithstanding), but otherwise it has every characteristic of a religion. The most blatant of those characteristics is dogma. People who believe in leftism have as many dogmas as the most fundamentalist Christian.

One of them is material equality as the preeminent moral goal. Another is the villainy of corporations. The bigger the corporation, the greater the villainy. Thus, instead of the devil, the Left has Big Pharma, Big Tobacco, Big Oil, the “military-industrial complex,” and the like. Meanwhile, Big Labor, Big Trial Lawyers, and — of course — Big Government are left-wing angels.

And why is that? Why, to be specific, does the Left fear big corporations but not big government.

Oh, do you think that maybe it's the fact that the public can, theoretically, vote a politician out of office, but the same isn't true of the CEO of a corporation? Or, is that just too logical for rightists?

Another good question: Why does the Right fear big government but not big corporations?.

And government is much more trustworthy. In fact it is government that protects us from corporations.
